Design Briefing
To provide a floor which would differ from the traditional veneer look so common on yachts and instead reflect an environment of sophisticated luxury.
The flooring and wall cladding were selected from stable, slowly grown American White Oak, in a mixture of “clean” and “natural” boards. This blend of woods, coupled with the effect of using random widths-lengths and hand-scraped edges, added to a sensation of purity and natural quality. All boards were fumed to a faded beige-grey shade after finishing the floor with Limed Natural Oil. To minimise the weight on this hi-speed yacht, all boards were milled to 12mm (1/2”) thickness with tongue and groove and bonded to a plywood base.
